While the game presents JojaMart as the surface-level villain, veteran Stardew Valley players know that in actuality, Pierre is even worse. Respawn and begin bugging out, joining Abigail in the corner of shame. Shout Yeehaw halfway through play session (usually after drinking the coffee) and bumrush the enemy. Laugh, and try to keep her alive futilely.
In truth, Pierre more fervently pursues profits than JojaMart, constantly bombarding players with telemarketing at all hours of the night and filling their mailbox with flyers. Watch Abigail get herself killed or cornered.
However, at one point Pierre tells the player of his dream to open an increasingly large amount of stores until he becomes " extremely wealthy," suggesting he only cared about eliminating JojaMart as a competitor for his own gain, rather than the good of the town. He gives a big speech at the reopening of the Community Center, emphasizing the importance of small towns and businesses and condemning the way JojaMart has corrupted Stardew Valley. The core conflict of the game revolves around retailer JojaMart's soulless, corporate influence on Stardew Valley, and the financial difficulties the presence of the superstore gives Pierre. Stardew Valley's Pierre is not only a liar, but a hypocrite as well, secretly supporting the opposite of the values he claims to espouse. Some players may even end up with Pierre as a father-in-law, as his daughter Abigail is one of Stardew Valley's marriage candidates. Outside of buying seeds, players can also sell their produce directly to Pierre for an immediate profit, instead of having to wait until the next day as they would selling through the box on their farm. Pierre's General Store sells the seeds Stardew Valley players need to grow crops, as well as other useful goods like sugar and fertilizer. Players must often rely on the different services offered around town in order to progress in the game, in particular Pierre's shop. Many residents of the quaint Stardew Valley serve a particular role in town - for example, Gus runs the Stardrop Saloon, Harvey is the town's doctor, Robin operates the Carpenter's Shop, and Pierre runs the town's General Store.
